You start the season with 5 trades, and one additional trade is added every 2 weeks up until the NHL trading deadline in March (the exact date will be announced later in the season). No further trading will be permitted after the trading deadline. You cannot have any more than 5 trades available at one time, so if you do not use your trades you will lose them.
When making trades, you must still keep the right number of players at the right positions (12 Forwards, 6 Defense and 2 Goalies). You must also not exceed the total number of points that you have available. If you had unused points from selecting your team at the start of the season then these points will still be available to you. If you have unused points after making trades then these points will be saved until the next time you want to trade.
The cost of the players available in the pool will go up and down during the season. If people trade for a player his cost will increase and if you trade away a player his cost will decrease. When you trade away a player, the value you get for him will be his cost at the time you make the trade.
The trading period goes from one Monday until the next Monday. Any trade that you make will go into effect immediately, but the players cost will not change until the following Monday morning. After the trade goes into effect you will start earning points from your new players and stop earning points from your old players. For example, if you make a trade on Friday November 4th the trade will happen immediately and you will get any points that your new player gets that night. The players cost will not change until Monday November 7th though.
Also, if a trade looks too good to be true it probably is! Occasionally our stats provider will mis-spell a players name and they will show up as costing something ridiculously low. Also, in the past people have found ways fool the trading program in some way. If you make any trades like these, we will catch them and all of your trades will be nullified for that week. If you notice a problem with the trading program, let us know so it can be fixed.
How to trade
Before you make your trades, you may want to browse the lists of players available on the standings page in order to plan your trades beforehand. In addition you may want to check out which players the top teams are acquiring (note that some of these reports are not available yet but will be soon).
To start trading you must log in. After that, select "Trading" from General Manager box on the left-hand side of the page. The trading page will then be loaded. Once the page appears, you will see a listing of all the players in the league with your team to the right-hand side. You can then select which players to add / remove from your team by clicking the plus and minus symbols next to the team (just like when you picked your team).
Once you are satisfied with your trade(s) you can press "Save Team" at the bottom of the screen (this will only appear if you have a valid trade). You will be asked to confirm that you are happy with your trades and then they will happen immediately. We strongly recommend that you only have one browser window open to our site at this time, as trying to execute trades from multiple windows could cause the wrong trades to get executed.
