Rules of the Game

How to win

Well first of all you have to play to win. Either enter your existing username and password (note that these have all been reset in the upgrade) or create a new user account and then pick your team (see help for more details). The idea is to pick a team that will get the most points (see "how you get points" below). Just remember that the last day that you can select your team is Wednesday October 4th @ 19:00 EDT.

What are the rules

We try and keep the rules simple because we don't like alot of rules, so here are the main rules:

  • Each general manager must draft a complete team on or before Wednesday October 4th @ 19:00 EDT
  • You will have 8000 'points' available to draft your team
  • A team consists of 12 forwards, 6 defense and 2 goalies
  • Points that are not used to draft players can be used later when trading players (see below)

How you get points

For each player on your team you will collect points from the regular season based on the following system:
SKATERS   GOALIES
StatisticPoints
G10
A6
PPG+6
SHG+8
PIM1
+/-2

StatisticPoints
W20
T10
GA-1
SO+10

Trading

You are able to waive players and add players to your roster throughout the NHL regular season, up until the NHL trading deadline. Any player not on your roster can be added to your team, and any player on your roster can be removed, provided you still have the correct number of players at each position after the transaction is completed.

Trading does not begin until sometime in November. You have to carry your initial roster that you choose until that time.

All trading must be done within the following rules. If they are unclear, please contact us and we will try to make things clear.

  • You start off with 5 trades and gain an additional trade every two weeks
  • You may have 5 trades stored up at any time. Any trades beyond that will be lost
  • A waive/acquire transaction uses 1 trade
  • You must keep your roster balanced and stay within the allowed points
  • Trading ends with the NHL trading deadline
  • Trades take effect immediately
  • Each trade for a player adds to their value. Each time a person is dropped they lose some of their value. A player may not increase or decrease more than 200 points in a week, or have their cost fall below 100 points. These changes will not go into effect until Monday morning
  • Players that nobody has will have their values drop slowly if they are "over-valued". This will happen every Monday morning
  • You only get the points after the player starts playing for you. You also keep the points that you got from a player which you dropped

What players are available

Initially the only players that are available are those that played last season (plus a few rookies). As players from the minors are called up and rookies are started they will automatically be added to the list of available players after they have played 8 games. You will then be able to add them to your team using trading.

SubPools

Like years past, you have the ability to create Subpools. With a Subpool you can let us run your own hockey pool with our rule set. A separate summary page will be created for every Subpool so it will be easy for you to see how everyone is doing. Once you've created a Subpool, invite your co-workers and friends to join in (you'll need to provide them the password you specified). We require that at least three (3) people be entered in each Subpool, so if you don't have at least two (2) other people who want to join then please don't create a Subpool! We may make exceptions to this at our discretion.

Other rules and stuff

If anyone is tied after the regular season, ties will be resolved in favour of the team with the most goals scored. If two teams are still tied after that, then they will be considered 'tied' in the final standings. Only one (1) entry per person is allowed!

Final interpretation of the rules is left open to Tom and Ian. We will settle all disputes based on our own judgement and opinions.
